My First Experience with SEO – WIX.com

2019 was the first time I had even heard of the term ‘SEO’.

I was simply a Business Admin Apprentice based near London with the aspiration to enter the world of Marketing (mainly the social media route at the time).

Once I had built my employer’s brand new website on WIX.com, I remember him telling me “Right, now you need to make sure it’s SEO optimised”.

Me: “SEO what??”.

And from then on the rest is history.

WIX.com

WIX.com is a fantastic platform for any aspiring digital marketers and web developers who want to build their first website.

I was lucky enough to build/edit around 5 in my first year working on the platform.

I’ve worked with numerous clients such as driving instructors, fitness instructors, electrical contractors, data cablers, karate instructors and the list goes on…

Learning About SEO Through WIX.com

WIX has a useful step-by-step guide for SEO newbies to follow to ensure every web page is optimised at a basic level.

Well this made my life easier.

It will directly let you know which page titles, keywords and meta descriptions aren’t aligning and will keep reminding you until the changes are made.

My boss at the time didn’t want any copy added to the web pages so when I needed to add certain keywords in I’d add them onto the page in the same font colour as the background.

My colleague Callum has recently told me this is a very outdated method…

… Callum it was 2019 and I was new to this, cut me some slack!

Would I recommend WIX??

Yes and no.

Yes to all of you who have little experience building websites and dabbling with SEO.

Yes to all of you with minimal time on your hands as well.

But no to you lot who already have web building experience.

No to business owners who want a higher performing website with exceptional plug-in features.

Recommendation?

Here at Eighteen we use a variety of web software for our clients but we especially push our clients towards WordPress.

WordPress does everything that WIX does but to a higher degree.

If you’re looking to add multiple images and videos to your site I wouldn’t touch WIX with a barge pole.

But truly thank you WIX… for teaching me the basics of SEO.

Because no business owner, school teacher or university lecturer has ever (later blog incoming).
